Ingredients

  • 16 oz refried beans
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 cup sour cream, divided
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup prepared salsa
  • 1.5 cups shredded Mexican-blend cheese
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
  • 2.25 oz can sliced black olives, drained
  • 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced

Steps

  1. 1

    1. Mix the refried beans with cumin and chili powder, then spread evenly across the bottom of a wide ceramic plate or shallow dish.

  2. 2

    2. Beat the cream cheese with half the sour cream and all the taco seasoning until smooth, then spread it as the second layer over the beans.

  3. 3

    3. Mash the avocados with lime juice and garlic until mostly smooth, then spread over the cream cheese layer.

  4. 4

    4. Spoon the salsa evenly over the avocado, then scatter the shredded cheese, tomatoes, olives, jalapeño slices, and green onions across the top.

  5. 5

    5. Transfer the remaining sour cream into a piping bag or zip-lock bag with a small corner snipped off, then pipe concentric circles starting from the center outward across the surface.

  6. 6

    6. Drag a toothpick from the center outward at regular intervals through all the circles to create the spiderweb pattern, then refrigerate for 20 minutes before serving with tortilla chips.
