Ingredients

  • 4 plain or everything bagels, halved
  • 200g smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 225g cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons capers, drained
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced into rings
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, roughly torn
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1 Persian cucumber, thinly sliced on a bias
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Steps

  1. 1

    1. Toast the bagel halves cut-side down in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until golden and warm, or use a toaster.

  2. 2

    2. Arrange the toasted bagels on one side of a large wooden board or platter.

  3. 3

    3. Spoon cream cheese into a small bowl and place it on the board; fan the smoked salmon slices in loose folds alongside.

  4. 4

    4. Scatter the red onion rings, cucumber slices, and capers across the board in separate clusters.

  5. 5

    5. Tuck lemon wedges around the edges and finish the entire platter with fresh dill and cracked black pepper.

  6. 6

    6. Serve immediately, letting guests build their own bagels at the table.
