A layered, Halloween-themed hot dip with seasoned beef, melted cheese, and spooky sour cream and olive decorations.
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil and sauté the onion until softened, about 3 minutes, then add the garlic and cook 1 minute more.
2. Add the ground beef and break it apart, cooking until browned. Stir in the taco seasoning, smoked paprika, and drained diced tomatoes, then simmer for 3 minutes and season with salt and pepper.
3. Spread the refried beans in an even layer across the bottom of a 9x13-inch or similar oven-safe baking dish, then layer the seasoned beef mixture on top.
4. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the beef layer, then bake for 18–20 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the edges are bubbling.
5. Remove from the oven and immediately pipe the sour cream in ghost shapes across the surface, then press olive slices into tombstone shapes around the dip.
6. Scatter the crushed tortilla chips over the top to resemble graveyard dirt, add jalapeño slices if desired, and serve hot directly from the baking dish.
