Pan-seared bratwurst alongside tangy, caraway-scented sauerkraut. Simple, satisfying, done in under 30 minutes.
1. Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium heat, then add the bratwurst and cook, turning occasionally, until deep golden brown on all sides and cooked through, about 12–15 minutes. Remove and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add the onion and cook over medium heat until softened and lightly caramelized, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the garlic and caraway seeds, stirring for 30 seconds until fragrant.
4. Pour in the wine or beer to deglaze, scraping up any browned bits, then stir in the sauerkraut, black pepper, and mustard.
5. Simmer the sauerkraut mixture over low heat for 5–7 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed and the flavors meld.
6. Plate the bratwurst alongside a generous mound of the sauerkraut and serve immediately.
