⏱ 1 hr 5 minServes 620 min prep45 min cook

Ingredients

  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar, for the filling
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, for the topping
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, for the topping
  • 1/4 tsp fine salt
  • 115g cold unsalted butter, cubed

Steps

  1. 1

    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated, then spread into a ceramic baking dish.

  2. 2

    2. Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Add the cold cubed butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse, clumpy crumbs.

  3. 3

    3. Spread the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling, pressing it gently so it covers the fruit fully without compacting it.

  4. 4

    4. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the topping is deep golden and the apple filling is visibly bubbling at the edges.

  5. 5

    5. Rest for 10 minutes before serving to let the filling thicken slightly.
