Spooky deviled eggs with olive pupils and red-veined whites — eerie enough to stop a table cold.
1. Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan, cover with cold water by one inch, bring to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 12 minutes. Transfer to an ice bath and cool completely before peeling.
2. Halve the peeled eggs lengthwise, pop the yolks into a bowl, and set the whites cut-side up on a tray.
3. Mash the yolks with mayonnaise, Dijon, vinegar, smoked paprika, and garlic powder until smooth and creamy; season with salt and pepper.
4. Mix red food coloring with water, then use a fine brush or toothpick to paint thin branching veins radiating outward from the center hollow of each egg white half.
5. Pipe or spoon the yolk filling into each egg white hollow, mounding it slightly above the rim.
6. Press a green olive half cut-side up into the center of each filled egg as the iris, then set a black olive round on top as the pupil; chill until ready to serve.
